The Islington Society was founded in 1960 to safeguard and improve the quality of life in Islington. It focuses on the built environment and public transport, but also takes a special interest in public services and open spaces. The Canonbury Society
The principal aim of the Canonbury Society is to conserve the special character of Canonbury by opposing incongrous redevelopment or building alterations and promotiong changes which might enhance Canonbury. The Society organizes lectures, walks, visits & outings throughout the year. It also arranges regular archaeological site visits for members, usually in the City. IA&HS also aims to document archaeological findings in the Islington area
